First Day of Preschool

Ella had her first day of preschool this past Wednesday. Similar to last year, she hesitated for a moment and then was off playing before I left her new classroom. She didn't even acknowledge my presence when I went to pick her up at noon time. I guess I should get used to the idea that my children don't want me around as much; I guess I should get used to the idea that they will try to avoid me in public places! Boy, do I ever remember how badly I most likely treated my parents in public. Now that I have children of my own, I have such remorse for all the moments I treated my parents badly. I know it is part of the bargain of parenting, but I see my adolescence in a whole new light now since I have had to deal with "tude" from my own kiddos!

On a different note, Matt and I compared the picture of Ella's first day of school to this year, and we really couldn't believe how much she has grown in one year. Yes, she has grown taller, but her face looks so much more mature. She has grown into quite the little lady, big sister, and buddy.

On Labor Day, Ella, Colin, Moose and I hiked up Gile Mountain. Matt was absent because he was on a 75 mile bike ride with two other friends. On a side note, Matt had a really wonderful ride, and he was smiling when he returned home! The four of us had a wonderful hike despite the fact that Moose pulled the whole hike. Ella learned how to follow the trail, and she was quite excited to have her own backpack with water and snacks. Colin even did some hiking on his own, but I had to eventually put him in the backpack. Here we are at the top - having a snack of some apples and a granola bar.
